District Cross Country Relay Championships
The men's District Cross Country Relay Championship was first held in the East in 1918-9, the West in 1924-5 and the North in 1975-6. From 1929-30 until 1974-5 the West of Scotland was split into 2 Districts - South-West and Midland. The 1975-6 they were put together again to form the West District of today.
In 1975-6 a young athletes (male) race was added to the East and the newly formed West Relays consisting of an U13, U15 and U17 running over 2.5K. In 1976-7 the North District followed suit.
In 1992, with the formation of the Scottish Athletics Federation, the men's and women's were co-located, with the women running over 3 legs and the men 4 legs, and young athletes (female) along the same lines as the young athletes (male) event from 1993-4. In 1992 and before that the Women's relays consisted of a Minor (U13, Girl (U15) and an Intermediate (U17)/Senior.
While there undoubtedly were women's races held before 1993, in fact as far back as the 1930s they are known to have existed, results of these have proved difficult to find.
The District XC Relays for Masters started in 2010
